Why I love everything 16 and Pregnant related

So, generally I steer away from MTV but I just can't get enough of 16 and Pregnant and Teen Mom. I started watching 16 and Pregnant this summer when I got really sick and it was on demand and I've been hooked ever since.

In my mind, it is trashy enough to be entertaining reality television but I also feel like it has just enough value to justify watching.

MTV is generally devoid of any value whoever I think it is commendable to give a realistic look at teen pregnancy and parenting. Obviously it is a show primarily made for entertainment value but I also think it could possibly discourage teenagers from having babies.

I also find the presentation of the different girls, their families and the fathers commendable. I don't get the feeling that their specifically editing to make people look better or worse. That's sort of impossible to know for sure though and there's an obvious exception with Farrah's mother on Teen Mom. She was recently arrested for abusing Farrah although there was one incident where she hit Farrah on the show and they argue on fairly continuous basis.

I appreciate the way the fathers are presented in the show. They're not necessarily villianized and the struggles they face are show in a fairly diplomatic way.

Katherine Heigl to leave Grey's?

Perez Hilton is reporting the Katherine Heigl is leaving Grey's anatomy. I have to say, that I thought this had already happened. Not only has she only been in 3 episodes, as Perez mentioned, she barely has a story line. They are obviously writing her off.

My problem, though is that it's not a believable way off. Now, I'm not one to look for realism in television shows. That's not really the point in television but the way Alex broke up with Izzy was totally out of character. If this is her last season and she's barely going to be in it anyway than I don't understand why they didn't just kill her off instead of pulling this bullshit.

I know that many other fans have said that the show is going way down hill with the loss of a good chunk of the original characters such as Burke and George and the addition of many new characters. I've stood by the show though. I like the new characters, with the exception of the new heart surgeon who is sort of Blah. I can't stand by stupid story lines though so if Izzy's character is just going to contribute to those then I can't help but want her gone a little bit.

Television: It saves lives

I love TV and I'm not ashamed. I watch it a lot and I watch a lot of shows. I always have.

I was there when Rachel got off the plane and when Pheobe got married. I was there when Jim and Pam got engaged. I was even there when we finally met Elmo's dad.

I'm not ashamed of my TV habits. I don't think I'm wasting my life. I still go out and study(ish) and all that jazz. I have a real life. Just as there are functional alcoholics; I am a functional television addict. The invention of television on the internet has made my life much easier as I no longer have to rush to the TV at exactly the right time. It give me more freedom. The only show I HAVE TO watch when they're on are Boston Legal and The Office.

My favorite thing to do while studying or writing a paper is to watch a show on the side of the screen while i do whatever it is I need to do. Generally, I watch shows online that I haven't see yet but when my internet is out I also watch shows on DVD. I currently have in my collection: All 10 seasons of Friends, Season 4 of Gilmore Girls, Season 4 of Golden Girls, Season 1 of Boston Legal, and the third season of ER.

I think I learn a lot from all of the television I watch. For instance I often learn to be funny. I'll be the first to admit that some of the funniest things I say come from the mouths of Chandler Bing or Michael Scott.

A lot of human nature can be learned and observed from bad Reality TV shows. Wife Swap is my personal favorite. I like to think of it as a social experiment. There is something to be said for taking someone entirely away from the people they're used to and throwing them into families of people entirely different then them. It really is, at its heart, a little telling. And also....hilarious.

Moment of Truth was another great one. True it was a game show that featured mostly horrible, horrible people, but interesting things always come out when someone is forced to tell nothing but the truth. I loved it.

I try and watch the Daily show every day. In a lot of ways it mostly how I get my news, though I often slip a little MSNBC into my day.

My new thing is Vampire shows. I'm a little ashamed as I used to judge women who were all about vampire stories but I just so love many of the shows. I'm super into True Blood, which I would suggest to anyone, but I also recently watched the entire series of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and am now working my way through Angel. There really is something kind of sexy about a vampire.
